Texas Tech football: A&M transfer Tyree Wilson granted waiver

September 17, 2020 By admin Leave a Comment

After what we saw Saturday against Houston Baptist, the Texas Tech football team needs all the reinforcements in can get on defense. That’s why Wednesday’s news that Texas A&M transfer DE Tyree Wilson has been granted a waiver by the NCAA is rather significant.

Texas Tech football: A&M transfer Tyree Wilson granted waiver

The sophomore from New London, Texas joined the Red Raider program in August and had been awaiting a waiver to play in 2020. Now, he’s cleared and ready to join a defensive line rotation that clearly needs help. In week one, the Red Raiders managed just eight QB pressures against the Huskies, who threw for 587 yards.

Coming out of high school, he was a 4-star signee. Rated the No. 16 weakside defensive end in the nation and the No. 32 player in Texas by 247Sports, he had offers from the likes of Florida, Arkansas, Baylor, Washington State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, TCU, Texas, and many other programs.

Now 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds, Wilson has the size to play defensive end or defensive tackle depending on the situation. That could give defensive coordinator Keith Patterson more options along a defensive front that was a bit underwhelming when rushing the passer in week one.

Texas Tech Freshman designs runway line for New York Fashion Week

September 17, 2020 By admin Leave a Comment

While most high school seniors were prom dress shopping, Jillian Hackett was designing prom dresses. The 18-year-old just started classes at Texas Tech University studying apparel design and manufacturing, but shes also just started some major career moves.

It was always my goal to have clothing produced by the time I was 25 and now I am going to be 19 and have an exclusive dress sold halfway across the country, Hackett said. Hackett entered a sketch contest with a company called, All the Rage located in West Virginia. Her prom dress sketch won and it will be sold through the company.

It’s a purple magenta ball gown that had a bunch of different features to make it interchangeable, so you could have three dresses in one and I think that is something the judges really really liked, Hackett said. In the coming months, she will have to work alongside production teams. But that’s not all.

Hackett continued to develop her brand online and on Instagram. That is how a London-based company called Oxford Fashion Studio caught wind of her work. They were so impressed, they asked her to develop an eight piece collection that would eventually be part of a New York Fashion week show next year.

I’m going to begin the process of making my drafts and patterns for this collection over thanks giving break. Then I will start producing them all by myself. Because I don’t have a production team, so I’ll be producing this all by myself. Despite the hours to be put in, Hackett is excited and grateful for the opportunity to share her craft.

Why in the World Are Texas Universities Playing Football in Front of Fans?

September 17, 2020 By admin Leave a Comment

On Saturday, the Texas Longhorns opened the NCAA football season by beating the UTEP Miners 59–3. It wasn’t much of a contest, and the outcome was never in question. But there were plenty of non-football questions swirling around the matchup whose answers were less predetermined.

Why in the World Are Texas Universities Playing Football in Front of Fans?

One thing known for sure: the crowd almost certainly wasn’t COVID-free. The 1,198 students who purchased the “Big Ticket” package from the university were required to test negative in a rapid antigen test for the virus before they could receive their tickets. Of those tests, 95 came back positive.

Saturday’s game was just the latest example of UT-Austin’s inconsistent handling of COVID-19. Though the flagship university was an early adopter in instituting an online COVID dashboard, the information it offers is incomplete. The dashboard tells us, for example, that 18 students tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

In August, the university announced a proactive community testing program, which selects faculty, students, and staff who are not currently exhibiting COVID symptoms and offers them the opportunity to volunteer for free testing. This initiative was intended to track the asymptomatic spread of the virus among a wide swath of the university community the initial announcement from the school promised 5,000 weekly tests.

September 17, 2020 By admin Leave a Comment

After initially postponing its 2020 college football season, the Big Ten announced on Wednesday it would be returning on Oct. 23 or 24. The conference joins the ACC, Big 12, and SEC as the Power Five conferences to play football in the fall. After initial polls included Big Ten teams, recent coaches polls and AP poll left them out.

Texas drops two spots in USA TODAY Sports re-rank due to Big Ten

In the USA TODAY re-rank, Big Ten teams are back, with two creeping inside the top 10. Ohio State and Penn State are considered two of the best teams in the country. Since the Buckeyes and Ninty Lions join the top ten, the Longhorns dropped two spots to No. 10. UCF and LSU are outsiders now, falling to No. 11 and No. 12 respectively.

Moving on to Week 3 and the ACC is the only conference to have a full slate of games. The Big 12 will have Baylor hosting Houston while Tulsa will travel to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State. Big 12 and SEC play will begin on Sept. 26 with the Big Ten following nearly a month later.
